Aside from knowing we love it, we realised we didn't really know much about prosecco. So we dug up some fun facts.
1. There is actually a place called Prosecco that this delicious drop is named after. Prosecco is a suburb in the Italian city of Trieste, Italy.
2. There are two types of prosecco – Frizzante (lightly sparkling) and Spumante (fully sparkling)
3. The original Bellini used prosecco, not champagne.
4. Prosecco doesn't ferment in the bottle, therefore, it is best consumed 'young'. Prosecco's tank-ferment makes it easier and cheaper to make, which is why our wallets don't suffer as much from purchasing this variety.
5. Each Prosecco is labelled by which region it’s produced in using DOC or DOCG – DOC is produced from nine provinces spanning the Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia regions. DOCG can only be made in the Treviso province of Veneto, on the hills between the towns of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene.
